Weekly Update

This week was filled with lots of fun activities! Check out our pictures to see what's been going on!

We have been working on number lines in Math. The kids used sidewalk chalk to create number lines with partners. We also made a human number line using the dates of our birthdays!

We celebrated Wells's birthday on Tuesday. Happy Birthday Wells!

As a class, we read "Mummies in the Morning", a book from The Magic Tree House series. The kids were immediately interested in ancient Egypt and mummies. We did some research to learn more about the Egyptians and how mummies were made, then everyone wrote about what they learned.

Everyone REALLY enjoyed measuring different objects in our classroom. The kids suggested we measure how long the entire room was. Everyone worked together to measure the room, it was a lot of fun!

Reminders:
Friday, September 27th- Early Release
Monday, September 30th- Mrs. Lewis will be back with the kids on Monday. I will be in a School Improvement Team meeting all day.
*If you would like to send a small snack for your child to eat at the beginning of recess please do so! I know lunch is late and some of the kids may be getting hungry!

Weekly Update

Thank you to everyone who came out last night for Open House! It was great to see so many families here. If you were unable to attend, please check your child's OTIS for the information packet.

This week we continued working on comparing and measuring in Science. Last week the kids made and measured their body cut outs and this week we graphed the data.

In Math we have been working on comparing single digit numbers using "less than" and "more than". Next week we will continue comparing numbers and begin working with a number line.

We are still working on building stamina during the Daily Five. In Writer's Workshop we will be working on telling a story across three pages using "first", "next", and "last".

Weekly Update

We had a very short, but very busy week!
This week we continued working on comparing likes and differences. The kids worked together to make body cut outs of themselves. Then they put their cut outs in order from shortest to tallest and measured their bodies. We will continue this activity next week by creating a class graph of our data. This was a really fun activity for the kids!

We continued working on building stamina in the Daily Five and also practiced the 3 ways to read a book (read the pictures, read the words, retell a familiar story) and real vs. fake reading. The kids have started using their writing folders and are already busy creating some really great stories! We also had our first spelling test this week! I think this was a super "cool" thing for most of the kids, they seemed to enjoy it!

We celebrated another birthday in our class this week! Mimi turned 7! Everyone enjoyed brownies and fresh fruit! YUM!
